Playing Holi en New York

Yeni nos escribe desde Nueva York para contarnos sus peripecias entre la comunidad india de Manhattan, ¡este es su post!

"Este fin de semana ha sido el primero que he pasado en New York y me parece que he puesto el listón muy alto para superarlo ya que estuve celebrando el Holi en pleno Manhattan.

La idea partió de Aida, antes de venirme le enseñé un grupo Bhangra que celebraría en Holi el día 20 de marzo y que buscaba voluntarios para ayudar a hacer el evento. Aida me animó a apuntarme y la verdad es que después de comprarme un secador fue lo primero que hice al llegar a esta ciudad.

El día anterior al evento nos reunieron a todos en un restaurante y allí conocí gente del club de NYC Bhangra. Ellos me invitaron a participar y me recibieron con los brazos abiertos. Megha a la cabeza del club.

Así que me asignaron al tenderete, vendiendo joyería y ropa india. Y allí me presenté al día siguiente. Pasé todo el día vendiendo pendientes, collares y cosas preciosas, manejando dólares y sobre todo disfrutando de los bailes del club, de su color y de su alegría.

El evento fue un éxito rotundo y para celebrarlo nos fuimos de fiesta y a bailar Bhangra y Bollywood!

En resumen, fue un día redondo que no olvidaré en mucho tiempo.

Desde aquí quiero agradecer a NYC Bhangra por su acogida y sobre todo a Megha por su fuerza

"Last weekend was the first I have spent in New York and I went to celebrate Holi in Manhattan.

Aida gave me the idea. Before arriving here I showed her the website of the Bhangra club that would celebrate Holi on March 20th and they were looking for volunteers to help in the event. Aida encouraged me to do it and to be honest it is the first thing I did when I got here after buying a hair dryer.

So they asked me to help in the handcraft tent, selling Indian jewelry and clothes.

The next day I showed up there. I spent the whole day selling earrings, necklaces and fantastic things, struggling with English and dollars and of course enjoying the Bhangra show with the colors and the happiness of the people.

The event was really successful and to celebrate we went to a party, to dance Bhangra an Bollywood!

In a nutsell, it was a wonderful day that I'm never going to forget.

On this blog I want to say thank you to NYC Bhangra and especially to Megha because of her strenght and energy that she shares with everyone."
